What is the story behind Far Afield? When did it start and what was the inspiration behind it?

Far Afield was founded myself and my brother back in 2014. Together we have 12 years experience in menswear design, production, sourcing and retail.

Mark started the menswear brands tuktuk and Madras Shirting Company over the last 10 years, whereas I opened the retail space Thread Menswear in Brighton in 2012. With our acquired skills across the menswear industry, we decided to combine forces and Far Afield is the result of that.

How does the creative process for the products carry out?

My brother, Mark, is the Creative Director, so he does lots of research before coming up with a theme for the collection. For SS20, the collection is inspirred by Ibiza.

After the collection has a theme, we then design the prints, and put into CADS, these CADS are then sampled, and then the collection is produced.

Is there a specific product or piece that has proved iconic for the brand?

Our printed shirts synonymous with Far Afield. For both Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter collections, we always have fun in designing the shirting, and these are what I feel our customers love the most.

I know one shouldn’t pick favorites but… what is your personal favorite piece from your current collection?

The vintage inspired knits are proven winners, and we have a great selection in some lovely soft pastel colours. 

How has The Feeting Room played into the brand's growth?

It's nice to have a representation in two major cities in Portugal, so it's nice to be able to add a flag to great places we are stocked in.
